Chapter Eleven

Steele

I heard Summer frantically calling my name just as I hung up the phone from calling Amy about some clothes. I nearly ran into her as I ran toward the bedroom, where the sound of her voice had come from. “What is it?” I asked, looking around for some threat. “What’s wrong?”

“It’s Ian. He’s going to do something stupid,” she said. “He’s going to try and stop Royal on his own. We were talking and he just disappeared.”

I froze. “How?”

“He thinks if he gets back in his body, he can ‘end it’. Those were his words. I think he means to kill them both,” she cried out. “We have to stop him.”

I reached for my phone even before she’d finished speaking, and dialed Amy back.

“Amy, it’s Steele. Ian’s going to do something stupid. Please, I need you and your sisters—and Shawn here, as soon as possible.”

“What happened?” she asked.

“Ian is gone. He told Summer what he planned. Call Flint, too. I’m going to see if I can work a spell—scry for him. Don’t know why I didn’t think of that before, actually,” I finished. “We’re going to need all of our collective power to find him, though, since he believes Royal is blocking him from us somehow.”

“We’ll be there as soon as we can, Steele. We’ll find him.”

What we left unsaid, though, was whether or not we could find him if he didn’t want to be found—or if we’d be there on time. “Thanks,” I said and disconnected the call.

I turned to Summer, who stood in front of me wringing her hands. “I need you to concentrate, Summer,” I said gently. “See if you can sense him.”

She nodded and closed her eyes. I could feel the power she possessed shimmering through her. Damn, she was a lot stronger than I’d given her credit for. The entire area around her pulsated as she did whatever it was she was doing to try and find my brother.

I doubted she even realized what she was capable of.

Finally, she opened her eyes. “He’s close. Not in the house—but close. I can feel him.” She looked at me intently. “How is that possible?”

“He’s made a connection with you, would be my guess. But, we can use that. Do you know about scrying?” I asked.

She frowned. “Not really, no. I’ve never needed to do something like that.”

“I need to try. The others will be here soon, but I have to do something.” I looked down at her pencil skirt and heels. “We really need to get you in something a bit easier to move around in,” I said thoughtfully. “Do you know glamours?”

She nodded and grinned. “Why didn’t I think of that?” Once more, she closed her eyes. Even as I stood watching, she changed into a pair of jeans, sneakers, and a T-shirt. She grinned and nodded. “Better?”

“Is that a glamour, or did you just manifest that outfit?” I asked.

She tilted her head to the side. “Is there a real difference?”

I nodded. Oh, there was so much she didn’t know.
